Talking to the Lord through prayer is an important practice in our spiritual walk. The Bible teaches us to pray and ask God for wisdom, for peace, for strength, and for anything else we need as we go throughout our day.
But our prayer life should not only be centered around ourselves. In fact, in1 Timothy 2, Paul tells us that we should pray on behalf of “all men:”“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men…This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1, 3-4
This verse discloses another important purpose of prayer: petitioning for our non-believing friends, that they would come to know Christ. To help you pray over your Muslim friend, we’ve found three Bible passages that we hope would be helpful.
Three Bible verses to pray over your Muslim friend
1. Pray that their eyes would open to see Jesus
“Then the eyes of those who see will not be closed, and the ears of those who hear will give attention.” Isaiah 32:3
The enemy is actively working against the Kingdom of God and wants to stop its growth. He traps non-believers in lies to keep them from seeing Jesus– this is what has happened to Muslims!
Pray that your Muslim friend’s eyes can be opened to see Jesus Christ and realize that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
2. Pray for them be drawn to the Father
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:44
Most Muslims are born into Islam and are victims of the religion that tells them they will perish in hell if they question their faith. It is impossible for them to escape this religion unless God intervenes.
Believers who come from a Muslim background did not get there through their own power, but because God, through His Spirit, drew them to Himself and they responded. Pray for God to work in your Muslim friends’ lives to set them free from the lies of Islam and bring them into a relationship with Him.
3. Pray for your Muslim friend to repent of their sins
“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”2 Peter 3:9
The natural result of having one’s eyes opened to the truth is seeing our sinful lives for what they truly are– full of sin. Pray for your Muslim friend to respond to the Spirit’s conviction to repent of their sins and accept Christ as Lord and Savior.Praying over your Muslim friend is a wonderful way to love them even when they are not always around you. Prayers soften your heart towards Muslims and help you see them through God’s eyes who loves them and wants them to become His children.
Prayer
Dear Lord, please help me build a habit of praying for my Muslim friend. Bring your scripture to mind for me to pray over their life and their heart. Show me how to love them as you do. Amen.
