There are many different ways to witness to a Muslim about the way Christ has worked in your life and saved you. Sometimes we share our testimonies, other times we focus on the valleys God has carried us through or when He brought us out of our broken lives to live a redeemed life. We also share the Bible with them, special verses that spoke to us in various periods of our lives.
Thanksgiving is one way we can also point our Muslim friends to God. Read what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:15 after he had suffered for Christ, but continued to share the gospel, he says: “For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.”
How often do we think of our gratitude as a way to glorify God and share His grace with others? Or how often do we strive to bless others so they can increase in thanksgiving and glorify God?
This is not the same as saying, “If you have a positive attitude your Muslim friend will notice it and ask what makes you different.” That’s lifestyle evangelism and it is not enough to obey the Great Commission in Matthew 28.
Rather, outwardly and clearly expressing your gratitude to God in front of your Muslim friend, whether you're praying over a meal, telling them about your day, or sharing your testimony, is glorifying God.
Bible verses about thankfulness to inspire you in sharing the gospel with Muslims
Here are some more verses that highlight the importance of thankfulness, and we’ll discover how each verse draws us nearer to God, which inspires us to talk more about Him and share His goodness.
There is a lot to thank God for
“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! Who can utter the mighty deeds of the Lord, or declare all His praise?” Psalm 106:1-2
When we reflect on all that God has done for us, the list could truly go on forever! Our hearts fill with thankfulness, which leads to a natural expression of gratitude. What better way to tell our Muslim friend about Jesus than to explain how He has saved us and changed our lives?
God values our thankfulness highly
“I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify Him with thanksgiving. This will please the Lord more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs.” Psalm 69:30-31
God loves to hear our praise and thanksgiving – this is part of being in a true relationship with Him! There is no way for someone to know and love God without praising Him for His wonderful deeds and blessings, but this verse takes it one step further.
At the time of this Psalm, the Israelites were still sacrificing animals to pay for their sins and to please God; yet this verse says even more than these sacrifices, God is pleased with our thanksgiving and praise. You can even point this out to your Muslim friend, that your relationship with God and your praise is more important to Him than physical offerings (not that those aren’t important too!).
God is the source of good gifts and He is consistent
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17
This verse is especially good for when you are personally struggling to be thankful because it brings us back to the core truth: every good thing we have comes from God. You can share this with your Muslim friend because they are taught that Allah can also be deceptive and change his mind. They are often surprised to hear that God is consistent and loving, not a master of trickery.
Prayer of thankfulness as an evangelist
Dear Lord, thank you for all your mighty and good deeds, which are too many to count. Thank you for your loving kindness and the opportunity to have a relationship with you. I love you Lord, and I want to share you with my Muslim friend so they can know and love you too. Amen.
